Shenton Way Japanese Interior Design Project

This Shenton Way residence draws inspiration from traditional Japanese interiors while adapting the design for contemporary urban living. Warm timber finishes, handcrafted-looking textures, shoji-style screens and carefully detailed custom carpentry establish a calm and cohesive atmosphere throughout the home.

Project Type: Residential Interior Design & Renovation

Location: Shenton Way, Singapore

Scope: Interior Design & Renovation

Category: Residential Spaces

Japanese Inspired Tea Room Interior

The tea room forms the visual and experiential centrepiece of the residence. Tatami-inspired flooring, low seating, woven textures and timber screens create an intimate environment influenced by traditional Japanese spatial principles.

A softly illuminated circular feature forms a focal point within the room, while warm architectural lighting highlights the custom joinery and material details to create a tranquil setting for tea, dining and quiet gatherings.

Warm Timber & Shoji Style Detailing

Timber is used extensively throughout the residence to introduce warmth and visual continuity. Shoji-inspired sliding panels, textured surfaces and full-height custom cabinetry reinforce the Japanese design language while providing practical storage and spatial separation.

Circular recessed handles and subtle crafted details give the cabinetry a distinctive identity without introducing unnecessary ornamentation, supporting the home's restrained and balanced character.

Bespoke Storage & Residential Functionality

Custom storage is integrated throughout the residence, including full-height wardrobes, concealed cabinetry, display niches and built-in furniture. These elements maximise usable space while preserving the clean architectural lines that define the interior.

The bedroom, bathroom, kitchen and circulation spaces continue the same material palette, allowing functional everyday areas to remain visually connected to the overall Japanese-inspired concept.
